| | Q: What is the Canopy Tour?
A: The Canopy Tour consists of a series of platforms mounted in the trees of the tropical forest. The Tour elements are situated between 50 and 90 feet above the ground.
Q: What is the Outdoor Adventure?
A: Our Outdoor Adventure, often called Canopy Tour's "Big Brother," is for those looking to achieve maximum adventure on their vacation. As you venture deep into the heart of the Sierra Madre, you'll learn a variety of wilderness techniques, forge through clear streams, rappel down waterfalls into natural river pools, and soar 200 ft above the ground on an amazing 1000 ft zip line!
Q: Where are the Tours located?
A: Our Canopy Tour is located on Vallarta Adventure's private eco-reserve in the Sierra Madre mountains near the community of Las Palmas, about 45 minutes from Puerto Vallarta. Our Outdoor Adventure takes place at our private reserve high in the hills above an area called Las Juntas y Los Veranos, approximately 10 km south of town.
Q: What are the Tour schedules?
A: Canopy Tours depart several times daily. If you are staying in Puerto Vallarta, our Marina Office has daily departures at 8:30 am, 10:30 am and 1:30 pm. If you are staying in Nuevo Vallarta, the Vallarta Adventure Center has daily departures at 8:00 am, 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. Our Outdoor Adventure Tours depart every Monday-Friday from the Vallarta Adventure Center in Nuevo Vallarta, Marina Vallarta and Mismaloya. Contact us for departure times.
 Q: Are the Tours safe?
A: Definitely! At Vallarta Adventures, your safety and enjoyment are our top priorities. Our safety record is unparalleled, our guides are fully trained, our equipment is state-of-the-art, and we continually monitor conditions to make certain every trip is run safely by utilizing the highest quality safety standards. In spite of all that we do to ensure your safety, in activities such as these, we cannot predict nor completely eliminate all of the potential risks. During normal tour operations, participants may receive minor injuries such as cuts and bruises, muscle strains, small friction burns or insect bites. Although serious accidents are highly unlikely, there is the potential for injury on tours of this nature. All guests must sign an Acknowledgement of Risk prior to participating, and we reserve the right to refuse admission to anyone for safety reasons.
Q: Do I have to be strong to participate?
A: Minimum Physical Requirements for participation on the Canopy Tour include: The ability to walk 15 minutes uphill, sufficient mobility and strength to climb a 15-foot ladder, and fit in the harness and helmet in a safe manner as determined by the Senior Guide. This is a function of body shape and size, not weight. If you have concerns around this issue, contact the office prior to booking the Tour. The maximum weight limit is 250 pounds. On our Outdoor Adventure guests can expect an adrenaline-filled day. It is a physical tour but it's not really tough. The terrain is rocky, so you should be in good shape and be able to walk uphill for 30 mins and be able to climb a ladder 20 ft straight up. There is a strict weight restriction of 250 lbs.
Q: What if I'm afraid of heights?
A: Fear of heights is normal and most participants have some anxiety at the beginning of these exciting ecotours. Some people find both tours a bit scary, but everyone finds them rewarding and are glad to have experienced them. Our guides are specially trained to help you both physically and emotionally. We never push, but if you have the desire and courage to take the first step, we'll support you all the way.
Q: Can I take these tours if I am pregnant?
A: No, unfortunately we do not allow pregnant women to participate in either tour for safety reasons. All guests are asked to sign an acknowledgement of risk form before starting our tours.
 Q: What should I wear?
A: For our Canopy Tour, you should wear comfortable clothing you don't mind getting a little dirty. Most of our guests take the Canopy Tour in shorts, a T-shirt and running shoes. Long pants are fine, but skirts or dresses are not. Closed-toe shoes are recommended, however strap-on sandals are acceptable. On our Outdoor Adventure, you will get both wet and dirty, so we recommend that you wear comfortable shorts, a T-shirt and hiking or tennis shoes as well as bring a change of clothes (which you can leave in the lockers at our base camp).
 Q: What should I bring?
A: On both tours it is best to travel as light as possible, although lockers are available free of charge. You will not be able to carry bags or cameras through the tour elements as your hands must be free at all times to control your equipment. Insect repellent is highly recommended and is available for sale at the check-in point. On our Outdoor Adventure you will get completely soaked, so you should bring a change of dry clothes and shoes, a towel and, in the winter months, a sweat shirt, which you can keep in the lockers at the base camp while you are in the forest. Don't forget your suntan lotion and mosquito repellant!
Q: Can I take a camera on the tours?
A: No, for safety reasons, we do not allow guests to take cameras on either tour (you need to keep your hands free to control your equipment.) However, you can take cameras up to the base camp and leave them in the lockers while you are in the forest or on the Canopy Tour elements.
On both tours, groups are accompanied by a professional camera man who is also a fully trained guide. They take a slightly different route from the main group so they can capture shots of you flying across the zip lines or rappelling the waterfalls. Outdoor Adventure Photos and Canopy Tour Souvenir Videos are available for purchase at the conclusion of your tour.
Q: How should I prepare for my tour?
A: Dress appropriately and arrive at the check-in point 30 minutes prior to your reserved departure time. There we will complete the paperwork, brief you on the Tour procedures and board the jeep for the trip to the Tour site. Please do not partake of any alcoholic beverages within 8 hours prior to the Tour; intoxicated persons may not participate.
Q: How do I make reservations?
A: You can make your reservation - and save 10% - by using our secure online reservation form. Vallarta Adventures will process your reservation and send a confirmation notice to the email address you provided. Be sure to bring it with you when you come to check in for your Canopy Tour or Outdoor Adventure.
