The Sierra Madre Occidental provides shelter to a wide variety of flora and fauna. As Mexico's leading adventure company, Vallarta Adventures focuses on the preservation and conservation of our local wildlife, as well as environmental education.

We believe in protecting the indigenous plants and animals that we encounter on our tours, so both tours are designed to reduce impact on the natural environment. No nails or bolts are driven into the trees, and we make every effort to ensure that access to the tour sites does not interfere with the wildlife populations.

In the case of our Canopy Tour, our own private eco-reserve consists of about 125 hectares, 4 of which are used for the tour, and the remaining 121 hectares are fenced off to preserve the natural environment and fragile ecosystems.

In this area we have seen ocelot, wild boar, white-tail deer, armadillo, coatimundi, rattlesnake, coral snake, solitary eagle, gray hawk, and other forms of wildlife. The flora is varied and abounds with Orchid, Bougainvillea and a variety of trees such as Capomo (Brosimum Allicstrum), Huanacaxtle (Enterolobium Cyclocarpum), Cedro Maria (Calophillum Braziliensis), Papelillo (Bursera Simaruba) and various species of the Ficus family.

The platforms used on our Canopy Tour are attached to the trees by nylon straps, and the weight of the platforms is held by the branches, which are inspected by one of the most respected dendrologists in Central America, Prof. Quirico Jimenez of the Universidad Nacional of Costa Rica.

The Outdoor Adventure takes place at our private reserve high in the hills above an area called Las Juntas y Veranos, which is situated approximately 10 km south of Puerto Vallarta. Here, the trees at the top of the canyon are smaller, so we use the natural rock of the area to anchor our ropes.

By focusing on the preservation and conservation of the environment, both of these exciting ecotours are aimed at enriching the lives of those who live in and visit Puerto Vallarta, while helping to make this a better world for future generations.
